Services

Building Kid Steps provides the following services: Speech, Occupational and Physical Therapy and Applied Behavioral Analysis services to children from birth to the age of 21.  We also provide adult speech therapy services.  We have group social skills for children with high functioning autism spectrum disorder to help increase generalization of skills.  We take Medicaid, Managed Medicaid (Driscoll, Superior, and Christus), and most major insurances.  Not all insurances cover therapy services but we will verify your benefits for you prior to the start of therapy.  We also offer social work at no charge to our parents to help them network for their children when necessary.   Below is an overview of our therapies.  If you are interested in our services we encourage you to contact us.  You can download a referral form, information packet about how to get started, and an intake packet to the right of the screen.

Applied Behavioral Analysis
  • is a data driven approach to modifying behavior.

  • An evidenced based practice for helping children with Autism Spectrum Disorder learn new information.

  • assesses the antecedents and consequences to challenging behavior to determine their function (reason they are happening).

  • It decreases challenging behaviors by teaching replacement behaviors based upon function that are age appropriate and socially valid. An example of a replacement behavior is teaching a child to communicate with a main focus on requesting desired items (either through sign language, verbally, or picture system).

  • Using the ABLLS-R or VB-MAPP assessments, individualized goals that are the building blocks for learning are developed in areas of visual performance, receptive language, motor imitation, labeling, and intraverbal skills.

  • ABA has been thoroughly researched and found to be effective for children with autism spectrum disorders but is also applicable and effective for children with Down syndrome or behavior problems.

  • Treatment plan is developed and implemented by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA).

  • Insurance Coverage varies by provider and will be determined before treatment begins. At this time, Medicaid does not cover ABA therapy.
